Is the SafeAwake a fire detection system?

The SafeAwake is not a smoke/fire detection system. It must be used in conjunction with a standard, T3 smoke alarm. The SafeAwake is activated by the audible signal a smoke alarm produces when it detects smoke.

What is a T3 smoke alarm?

As of 1996, all residential smoke alarms were required to generate a standard audible signal known as the emergency evacuation signal, more commonly referred to as the temporal-3 or T3 pattern. The patten consists of three 0.5 second beeps with a 0.5 second pause between each beep, followed by a 1.5 second pause. This pattern then repeats. The SafeAwake identifies a smoke alarm’s audible T3 pattern, so it is critical that any smoke alarm paired with a SafeAwake produce the T3 pattern, with no other sounds or beeps in the alarm signal.

If you have any questions about whether or not your SafeAwake is working properly, please contact us.

Why buy?

The SafeAwake is a superior alerting device for people who may not be able to hear and awaken to a traditional audible smoke alarm. It works in conjunction with an existing residential smoke alarm to alert sleeping people to a fire emergency. The bedshaker and low-frequency audible alerting devices in the SafeAwake have been shown to be far superior in alerting sleeping individuals to a fire than traditional smoke alarm horns and strobe lights. See this National Institutes of Health Report (NIH) to learn more.
